Minocqua Area Fishing Report - 3/31/26

As we wrap up the month of March, everyone is wondering when is open water coming?  Are they still ice fishing?  Can I drive my 4-wheeler out still?  Well first off, winter doesn’t seem to want to let up, snow and cold are forecasted for the first week of April, so not open water in sight for the near future.  Yes, people are still out ice fishing.  Some reports of 20”+ still, not all solid of course.  The last few days were warm and north shore lines are sloppy with some ice breaking away from shore.  4-wheelers…I have seen some on area lakes but am not recommending it at all.  Fishing this past week had its ups and downs.  Cold mornings slowed fishing but the last few days of consistent warming helped pick up the panfish bite.  Early in the morning and late in the day helped improve odds.

Crappie:  Good-Fair – On days when it wasn’t’ way below freezing, tip-downs seemed to produce the most fish.  8-14’ of water was a good range in weeds.  Plastics were also taking Crappies when they were a little more active.

Bluegill:  Good-Fair – Early morning was the key for the Bluegill bite.  Fish seem to still be scattered throughout the water column.  Some Gills were out scattered suspended in depths of 15-24’, while some were related to weeds in 6-12’.  Small tungsten baits tipped with spikes, waxies and even plastics were taking fish.

Yellow Perch:  Good-Fair – Still cruising the mud flats.  Jigging spoons tipped with a couple red spikes proved to be a good bet.  Some decent fish being reported up to 13”.

We’ll have to see what these next few storms bring, if we get the snow that my phone told me 10 minutes ago, it could make things difficult getting around again.  Maybe, 10 minutes after I post this report the weather could change again too?  Who knows?  What I do know is fishing licenses expire today, March 31st, so make sure you’re up to date on that to keep the Game Wardens happy.

Our line sale starts tomorrow, April 1st.  Get your reels together and stop in to get spooled up and check out the new gear we are starting to get out on the shelves.
