Other than last night’s (4/28) storm bringing cold temps (37 degrees), weather has been somewhat typical of April. Some nights the peepers are singing loud and strong, colder nights rather quiet. Lake temps in low-mid 40’s with a few of the largest and deepest still in upper 30’s.
Walleye spawn in full swing on most lakes. Signs of being done on smaller lakes and Flowages where water warmed quicker. Further north and on the big lakes spawning very strong. Expect, with forecast of temps in 70’s for the opener, that most mid-sized lakes will also be finishing up.
Crappies and Bluegill are stacking up in the shallows on warm, sunny afternoons. Should provide plenty of action for anglers taking a break from chasing Walleyes. Largemouth Bass will also be found cruising the shallows on those warm afternoons.
Northern Pike, having spawned first, will be working shallow weeds searching for meals.
If forecast holds, should be a great weekend weather-wise. We will be open until midnight Friday, May 2nd and reopen at 4 am on Saturday May 3rd. Plenty of fresh minnows, chubs, leeches and crawlers in stock!
